The Heisman Trophy may be out of the conversation for the 2019 season, but Trevor Lawrence is still the most talented quarterback in the nation.
Clemson QB Trevor Lawrence came into the 2019 season with expectations through the roof.
Analysts believed that Lawrence would set all kinds of collegiate records and never miss a beat on his way to potentially leading the Tigers to another National Championship and winning the Heisman Trophy.
Early in this season, however, Lawrence has struggled relative to expectations. Through the first six games, he has completed 62.7 percent of his passes for 1,301 yards and 11 touchdowns to six interceptions. It also should be noted that Lawrence has five rushing touchdowns.
He’s still on track to have a great season, but because he didn’t live up to the hype and narrative set forth for him, people have already written him off for the Heisman Trophy.
Earlier this week, Lawrence’s name was officially withdrawn from Vegas’s board for potential Heisman candidates.
Instead, people are looking at shiny names like Jalen Hurts, Tua Tagovailoa, Justin Fields and Joe Burrow.
While those are all talented quarterbacks, the truth is that Trevor Lawrence is still the most skilled QB in the nation. The Heisman Trophy isn’t given to the most talented player in the nation and Lawrence hasn’t had the stats to win it to this point, but he still has plenty on the table in terms of his individual career.
If you asked any NFL scout, they’d still tell you that Lawrence is going to be the first-pick in the NFL Draft two years from now. Early in the season, it seemed that he was trying to do too much and that led to several interceptions. It also seemed that the offensive coordinators were challenging him to make reads and not giving him easy options in the passing game.
In the end, all of that is going to make Trevor Lawrence better.
You can watch the film and see that he is the most talented QB in the country. The throws Trevor Lawrence is able to make- many times on the run- are just uncanny. He’s able to place balls right where they need to be and has arm strength that no other QB on the planet possesses, outside of the NFL.
While the Heisman Trophy may be out of the question for Lawrence in 2019, he still has plenty to prove as an individual, including continuing to rack up wins and seal his place in the history of the Clemson football program.
