Week 5 of the College Football season has several interesting games that should intrigue Clemson football fans. Here’s a look at our spread predictions.

If you’re a Clemson football fan not making the trip up to Chapel Hill this weekend, you’ll have plenty of College Football to watch throughout the day.

Even if you are making the trip, it’s certainly believable that you’ll have a television or two set up with your tailgate to keep up with the action happening around the nation.

Each week, Rubbing the Rock gives you spread predictions for several prominent games around the world of College Football. Here’s a look at our picks against the spread for College Football Week 5.

Virginia at Notre Dame

Current Spread: Notre Dame -12.5

Spread Prediction:

Notre Dame had a chance to beat Georgia in Athens. If the Fighting Irish could’ve had any semblance of an offense in the second half before the final minutes of the fourth quarter, they would’ve won that game. Now, they’re back home and playing a team that struggled to beat Old Dominion last weekend. You’d think that would spell spread cover, right?

No, I think Virginia has a renewed focus after the Cavaliers escaped what would’ve been an embarrassing upset. I’m not sure Virginia wins the game, but they’ll keep with 13 points.

Kentucky at South Carolina

Current Spread: South Carolina -3

Spread Prediction:

South Carolina is a three-point favorite at home against Kentucky. The Gamecocks are likely the more talented team and this game will go one of two ways: They’ll either come out firing on all cylinders and put the game away, or they’ll face adversity and fall apart at the seams.

Kentucky’s no slouch and South Carolina hasn’t proved it can handle any adversity. I’m taking the Wildcats to win outright until the Gamecocks prove otherwise.

Ohio State at Nebraska

Current Spread: Nebraska +16.5

Spread Prediction:

The spread is huge for this one between Ohio State and Nebraska. The Cornhuskers will be hyped coming in and that may keep it close, but Ohio State is just the better team.

Nebraska has shown improvement under Scott Frost, but there’s a major difference between improvement and being on an elite level. Nebraska may very well be a top-25 team, but they’re not top-10. Ohio State wins and covers that spread.

USC at Washington

Current Spread: Washington -10

Spread Prediction:

Somehow USC is back in the top-25 after beating Utah last week. The Trojans won’t stay there long. They’ll lose to Washington this week and I expect that the Huskies will cover the 10-point spread as well.

So, to review. We’re taking:

  • Virginia +12.5 vs. Notre Dame
  • Kentucky +3 vs. South Carolina
  • Ohio State -16.5 vs. Nebraska
  • Washington -10 vs. USC
