1. Brent Venables is a mastermind

Give him another raise.

Look, there will be times this season where the defense will struggle. It’s just the honest truth about the course of a season.

That being said, Brent Venables is an absolute mastermind.

He lost a ton of talent- including three first-round picks in last year’s draft- and has this defense clicking on all cylinders right out of the gate.

He is dialing up pressure and confusing opposing cornerbacks. Venables has built his scheme on the strengths of his personnel and adjusted the unit to have success.

He’s the best Defensive Coordinator in the nation and it’s not even close and that was certainly on display Saturday night when Clemson football held Syracuse to just six points and 187 yards of total offense.
