The Clemson football team took care of Texas A&M Saturday afternoon and improved to 2-0. Here’s our offensive grades for the Tigers.

In a game where a solid contingent of people outside of the Clemson football program were screaming upset, the Tigers took control and sucked the life out of any of those thoughts.

Clemson came away with a 24-10 victory, but anyone that watched the game could tell that it wasn’t even that close. Jimbo Fisher elected to take a timeout and scored with less than 10 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter to cover the spread, but that was the only Aggie victory over the day.

From the second quarter on, the Clemson football team was in control.

The Tigers led 17-3 at the end of the first half and then coasted in the second half, allowing Texas A&M to make mistakes while methodically putting the game away.

Here’s a look at our offensive grades and report card for the Tigers Saturday afternoon against Texas A&M.

Rushing Offense

The rushing offense had a little trouble getting going, but it did just enough to keep drives alive and make the Aggie defense stay honest. The Tigers rushed for a total of 121 yards, led by the combination of Travis Etienne (16 carries, 53 yards) and Lyn-J Dixon (11 carries, 79 yards). Dixon, in my opinion, had a really good game and was a great spark for that Clemson football offense.

Etienne had trouble getting going, but a lot of that had to do with how Texas A&M was stacking the box and trying to force the Tigers’ hand. Also in the rushing game, Trevor Lawrence scored a touchdown on a nice QB read play near the goal line.

Grade: C

Passing Offense

The passing offense got off the ground after struggling last week. Trevor Lawrence completed 24-of-35 passing attempts for 268 yards and a touchdown, as well as an interception. The interception was certainly disappointing, but other than that the passing game was solid during the afternoon.

The Tiger wide receivers had a couple of drops and Lawrence barely missed on a few attempted connections that could’ve blown the doors off of the game. So, there’s still plenty to work on, but overall it was a nice day.

Bottom Line:

Overall, the offense left a lot of points on the board. The Tigers should feel good about themselves going forward because a game in which they didn’t play the most efficient, they still beat a top-12 team by 14 points. Trevor Lawrence looked a lot better this week, but there’s still plenty of room for improvement. The offense always takes a little bit of time to get going and I think we’ll start to see them settle in over the course of the next couple of weeks.
