The Clemson football team will host the Texas A&M Aggies Saturday in a vaunted SEC vs. ACC match up. Here’s our staff scoring predictions for the game.
The Clemson football team kicked off the 2019 season with a win over Georgia Tech last Thursday in Death Valley.
Now, the Tigers are prepared to take on the Texas A&M Aggies for a chance to improve their resume extremely early on in the season.
The Clemson football program went into College Station last season and survived a late rally from the Aggies to win the game 28-26. Now, Texas A&M will be looking for revenge.
Here’s our staff predictions for the Tigers’ match up with the Aggies.
Shawn Spencer
Score: Clemson 42, Texas A&M 24
Reason: It should be expected that both teams score some points in this one. The key for the Tigers will be getting the passing game going on offense and pressuring Kellen Mond on defense. Mond will make some mistakes when he’s under pressure and that’s exactly what should be expected here.
Tyreese Ingram
Score: Clemson 35, Texas A&M 31
Reason: Clemson gives up more points than fans are accustomed to because the young linebackers and corners struggle, but Trevor Lawrence and the offense prove too tough for the overconfident Aggies to contain.
Cole Little
Score: Clemson 35, Texas A&M 24
Reason: Clemson’s first (and possibly only) legitimate test of the regular season should feature plenty of offense and an exciting quarterback duel between Trevor Lawrence of Clemson and Kellen Mond of Texas A&M. A raucous crowd at Death Valley combined with the Tigers’ high-octane scoring attack should be enough for the Tigers to hold off the Aggies and win by double digits.
Sean Watterson
Score: Clemson 35, Texas A&M 24
Reason: Jimbo Fisher is 2-2 against the spread in Death Valley as a head coach. He tends to play up to Clemson’s ability, and I’m sure he buys into the ‘Clemson wouldn’t survive the SEC hype.’ That said, Clemson won in College Station last year. The defense isn’t the same, but it’s still stout. The offense is probably better than last year, so Clemson gets the W, just not by enough to cover the giant 17.5 spread.
Barry Shuck
Prediction: Clemson
Nick Young
Score: Clemson 35, Texas A&M 34
Reason: Kellen Mond has another year in a new system to develop cohesion and I do believe this will be a harder game than Georgia Tech, especially after seeing Texas A&M RB Isaiah Spiller account for 106 yards on seven rushes last week. But, as the buzzer sounds, Clemson will come out on top once again.
