The Clemson football team took care of business Thursday night with a season-opening victory over the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in Death Valley.

The 2019 Clemson football season started with a bang Thursday night as the Tigers came away with a 52-14 victory.

Though the offense was a little sluggish right out of the gate, it didn’t take long for Clemson football to get on the scoreboard and take control of the game.

Following a muffed punt, Trevor Lawrence punched in score on a read-option play. Later in the first half, Travis Etienne blasted off for a 90-yard rushing touchdown and the Tigers were up 14.

Clemson took advantage of another forced turnover that led to another Travis Etienne rushing touchdown. The defense bent at times with missed tackles, but didn’t break. It stopped Georgia Tech in several short-yardage situations that continued to keep momentum in the Tigers’ favor.

With a little over four minutes left in the second quarter, Clemson put the exclamation point on the game with a 62-yard touchdown pass from Trevor Lawrence to Tee Higgins.

The Tigers controlled the game from start-to-finish and played a ton of young players on their way to a victory.

Clemson will host the Texas A&M Aggies at 3:30 p.m. next Saturday and certainly will have plenty to learn from the season-opening victory. The Tigers will be able to take what they see on film from the first game and get better before the Aggies come to town.

Here are five takeaways from Clemson football’s victory over the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.
