Clemson Football: 4-star WR EJ Williams commits to Tigers over Bama
4-star WR EJ Williams announced his commitment to Clemson football Saturday afternoon. The prospect chose the Tigers over Alabama and Auburn.
The 2020 Clemson football recruiting class picked picked up its 20th commitment Saturday afternoon when 4-star WR EJ Williams announced his decision.
Williams, who was considered to be a Clemson lean for quite some time, chose the Tigers over Alabama, Auburn and LSU. Williams is the second No. 1 wide receiver in the state of Alabama to choose Clemson football over the in-state schools in the last three years.
The last No. 1-rated wide receiver in the state of Alabama to choose Clemson was Justyn Ross, who played at the same high school as EJ Williams back in the 2018 recruiting class.
With the commitment from Williams, the 2020 Clemson football recruiting class strengthened its overall rating and remains the No. 1 class in the nation, according to the 247 Sports’ Composite Rankings.
According to 247 Sports’ Composite Rankings, the Tigers now have six 5-stars, nine 4-stars and five 3-stars committed in the class.
Analysis:
Williams has great measurables and could potentially come into Clemson at 6-foot-3 and more than 200 pounds.
At times, he could stand to be a bit more physical and use his body to beat defensive backs, but there’s nothing really not to like about the athlete. He has a 37-inch vertical and 4.66 40-yard dash.
Williams is able to highpoint the ball and go up and make plays in one-on-one situations. He’s got all the tools needed to compete for playing time as a freshman next season and he’ll certainly have an opportunity to develop into an elite wide receiver before it’s all said and done.
The Tigers already had a commitment from 3-star WR Ajou Ajou and now add Williams to the class. They’ll still keep their eye on 4-star WR Xzavier Henderson, but he won’t be closing his recruitment until later on in the process.
