The 2019 Clemson football season will open up with a home game against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. Here’s any early look at the Tigers’ ACC foe.

The 2019 Clemson football team will open up the season with a home game against Georgia Tech.

The ACC match up will be broadcasted live at 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 29 on the newly-launched ACC Network.

The Tigers officially finished up fall camp Tuesday afternoon and began their ‘Game Week’ preparation for the Yellow Jackets on Wednesday.

Here’s an early scouting report for what Clemson football fans can expect to see out of Georgia Tech when the Yellow Jackets make their way to Death Valley in just a week.

Georgia Tech: Early Scouting Report

There is very little that we know about Georgia Tech heading into the 2019 season. The Yellow Jackets will not run that option offense that they’ve run for the past decade under Paul Johnson.

Instead, new coach Geoff Collins is expected to upgrade that Yellow Jacket offense to a spread. The problem for Collins, though, is the fact that Georgia Tech doesn’t have spread personnel on its current roster. It’s going to take at least a couple of years for the Yellow Jackets to recruit players to fit in that system.

In addition to not having personnel for the system, Georgia Tech also recently received word that transfers Marquez Ezzard, Antonneous Clayton and Myles Sims all were denied waivers for immediate playing time. Instead, the three players will have to sit out a year.

As far as personnel on the current roster goes, Georgia Tech has plenty of competition. The Yellow Jackets still haven’t named a starting quarterback, but it’s expected that Lucas Johnson (RS Jr.) or Tobias Oliver (Rs. So) wins the job. Johnson is considered the favorite at this point. The offensive line is expected to be solid, but there’s still plenty of competition taking place there, as well.

One area where Georgia Tech may have some depth is at safety. The Yellow Jackets have two solid starters in Juanyeh Thomas and Tariq Carpenter.

Overall, this Georgia Tech team just doesn’t have the talent or depth yet to compete. Collins will get players in the program over the next few years, but we’d expect the Yellow Jackets to struggle over the course of this 2019 season.
