After an impressive season to begin his tenure at Clemson University as a true freshman, here is why Trevor Lawrence will build off of last year’s success.
After usurping Kelly Bryant for the starting quarterback position of the Clemson Tigers following an impressive performance against Georgia Tech, QB Trevor Lawrence would go on to achieve an 11-0 record and throw for 3,280 yards and 30 touchdowns with only 4 interceptions.
Lawrence is looking to build off of last year’s impressive performance and will have a healthy arsenal of talent around him to make that happen.
Here are three quick reasons Trevor Lawrence will build upon this success and have a better season as a sophomore.
- Trevor Lawrence and Travis Etienne have another year to build more chemistry. As seen in the NFL with teams like the Chargers and the Rams, the secret to a great quarterback is an equally great running back who helps the quarterback in a pinch.
- By giving Lawrence more than 26 passing attempts per game, he can prove to the world why he deserves to be a first round pick in the 2021 NFL draft. By keeping the majority of Clemson’s offense in tact, Lawrence has a better way of building fluency with them and knowing the offensive scheme to build his throwing motion around his wide receivers.
- Clemson once again had a tremendous recruiting class on offense. By recruiting two of the top wide receivers in the nation, the Tigers will have more weapons to include in Lawrence’s arsenal.
From there, my prediction is he will have closer to 3,600 yards and his touchdowns will stay around the same at 30-32.
The schedule is also favorable for Lawrence to put up some stats as it has only one opponent (Texas A&M) who was ranked at the end of the 2018 season. In my opinion, he is set up for success to be a first round draft pick in two years and all the hype he is receiving he will live up to.
