The Clemson football cornerback group has an opportunity to be very good. Here’s our preview of the position heading into the 2019 season.

The 2019 Clemson football season will begin in just a couple of weeks on a Thursday night at home against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.

The Tigers and Jackets will match up to bring the nation the debut game of the ACC Network.

Before we get to the beginning of the season, though, Clemson will go through several practice sessions as part of fall camp.

Through the past week, we’ve been previewing the upcoming Clemson football season by taking a look at each position group. Today, let’s take a look at the cornerbacks.

Projected Depth Chart:

Starter: AJ Terrell

  • Andrew Booth
  • LeAnthony Williams

Starter: Derion Kendrick

  • Mario Goodrich
  •  Sheridan Jones

Cornerbacks Preview:

The Tigers are in good position when it comes to cornerbacks this upcoming season.

AJ Terrell returns as the leader in the room. Terrell is a projected first-team All-American and is expected to take a huge step forward and develop into a first round pick in next year’s NFL Draft.

The position opposite-side of Terrell is up-for-grabs, but it seems that Derion Kendrick has a hold on it for the time being. We will see Kendrick battle with Mario Goodrich, as well as freshmen Andrew Booth and Sheridan Jones for the spot throughout fall camp.

In the end, we believe that Kendrick will maintain the starter role and that freshman Andrew Booth will earn the second-string spot behind Terrell. Goodrich will remain the second-stringer behind Kendrick and we’ll see Sheridan Jones not far behind on the depth chart.

Overall, the Tigers feel really good about this position. There are five talented guys that are capable of being starters at many other programs around the nation.
