University of Georgia Analyst Mike Griffith continues to make irrelevant points pertaining to Clemson football and Alabama in 2018.

If someone would’ve said that we’d still be talking about Clemson football’s National Championship win in August, we would’ve thought they were crazy.

But, that’s exactly what’s still happening.

UGA Analyst Mike Griffith can’t let it go. He can’t come to terms that Clemson football was just the better team last season. Griffith has, however, walked his argument back.

Just a little over a month ago, Griffith pounded the point home that Alabama was ‘fatigued’ from playing such a daunting schedule, despite the fact that the Crimson Tide won every SEC game by an average margin of close to 30 points.

Griffith also made it a point to say that the Tigers wouldn’t have survived the vaunted Alabama schedule.

Well, now Griffith is giving credit to the Tigers for being the best team in the National Championship game, but still wants to note that Alabama was the best team in September and October. He is fully convinced that there’s no way possible Clemson could’ve beaten Alabama if the two programs matched up in October.

Somehow, it gives SEC fans solace to think that Alabama was the best team at the beginning of the season. Pardon me if I’m wrong, but isn’t the goal to be the best in the postseason? Apparently not if you’re in the SEC. Then all that matters is the games in September and October. I mean, we might as well just play the National Championship game between the two best SEC teams in the middle of October if we go by that reasoning.

Yes, Alabama was dominant in September and October. Maybe they would’ve been a better team had they focused on building depth for the future of the season rather than beating up on mediocre teams.

The truth is this: Griffith thinks Alabama was the best team in the nation in September and October. No one knows that. And it doesn’t matter what poll voters believe, they’re wrong all the time.

The reality is that Clemson was the best team by far when it mattered.

In the end, Griffith and whole lot of SEC fans need to face the fact that the conference isn’t what it is hyped up to be. Alabama was dominant in that conference because the SEC just isn’t competitive. There’s Alabama and Georgia, then there’s a huge drop off. There are a few other teams on the rise like LSU and Florida, but they weren’t elite programs in 2018.

If Clemson was in the SEC, the Tigers would win the conference. It’s just that simple. They were the best team last season.

I suppose, though, if it gives you peace to think that an SEC team was the best four games into the season, you can believe whatever you want.
