The Clemson football team took to the practice field for the first time in several months. Here’s our early observations from the beginning of fall camp.
Fall Camp is a special time of year.
Though Clemson football fans don’t get to watch the team up close and personal, they are treated to news and notes coming from practice sessions each day.
The Tigers have now had three practice sessions and things are, at least in some ways, beginning to shape up. Clemson is transitioning to full pads and the Tigers will start preparing for a full squad scrimmage in the near future.
Here’s a few early observations from the first few practice sessions of fall camp.
- Trevor Lawrence looks different
This is something that you can see if you just find a few pictures of Clemson football’s fall camp. Trevor Lawrence is now up to 220 pounds on the scale and it is showing. He has built up his arm muscles and it’s clear that Lawrence is much thicker than he was as a freshman. He’s becoming a better leader and looks confident going through drills.
The true-sophomore is ready to be a leader on this Clemson football team and it’s clear that he is light years ahead of where he was this time last year. And that’s saying a lot.
- Wide Receiver Nightmares
Opponents are going to have nightmares trying to guard all of these talented options at wide receiver.
The Tigers have been trotting out Tee Higgins, Justyn Ross and Diondre Overton as the starters through the first couple of periods. Overton at the slot with Higgins and Ross on the outside could be a lethal combination in favor of Clemson.
When you look at the depth behind those three- Cornell Powell, TJ Chase, Frank Ladson, Joseph Ngata and Brannon Spector- it’s clear that this group is going to be a force to be reckoned with.
Specifically, both Ladson and Ngata look the part.
- Freshman Standouts
So far, there have been quite a few freshmen to stand out in the crowd. We spoke about Ladson and Ngata, who are both going to make an impact in the wide receiver room this season.
But, there’s also Tyler Davis (DT), Andrew Booth (CB), Sheridan Jones (CB), Vonta Bentley (LB) and Kane Patterson (LB). That’s just naming a few.
We’ve been really impressed with the rumblings coming out of camp pertaining to Booth and Davis, in particular.
Rubbing the Rock will have plenty more coverage pertaining to Clemson’s fall camp over the course of the next couple of weeks. Make sure you stay tuned for updates, analysis and much more.
