Clemson Football: Lyn-J Dixon overlooked in offensive analysis
The 2019 Clemson football offense is going to be special. One overlooked area is the depth provided at running back by Lyn-J Dixon.
The 2019 Clemson football offense has the potential to be one of the best in school history.
The Tigers return a star-studded lineup that features QB Trevor Lawrence, RB Travis Etienne, WR Tee Higgins, WR Justyn Ross, a deep offensive line and a plethora of talented options behind the skill position players.
While it’s easy to focus on players like Trevor Lawrence and Travis Etienne, who are Heisman candidates, or to get caught up in the dominance and explosiveness that Tee Higgins and Justyn Ross give the Tigers in the wide receiver room, Clemson football fans shouldn’t forget about another explosive option: Lyn-J Dixon.
Dixon is listed as the second-string running back behind Travis Etienne this season, but he’s going to play snaps similar to a starter.
While Etienne will still get the majority of carries this season, Dixon is going to make his presence felt. He’ll likely get anywhere between 8-15 carries a game and the coaching staff is certainly going to rely on the true-sophomore to make plays.
Dixon may very well be the best pure-runner on Clemson football’s roster. He’s as explosive as they come and is able to break off huge runs with great speed. Dixon, in many ways, is a carbon copy of Etienne, a little smaller, but maybe a step faster in straight-line running competitions.
Dixon is going to put up huge numbers this season and will take the College Football world by storm. Don’t be surprised when national analysts begin speaking of Clemson’s running back room as a ‘dynamic duo’ featuring Etienne and Dixon.
Of course, Etienne is still going to be the No. 1 option, but Dixon is going to prove to be one of the best No. 2 options in America this season.
