The Clemson football offensive line is expected to be one of the best units in Dabo Swinney’s tenure. Here’s our preview for the position in 2019.

It’s not just about the skill position players anymore when you talk about the Clemson football program.

Sure, the Tigers have a plethora of options and stars like Trevor Lawrence, Travis Etienne, Justyn Ross, Tee Higgins, Lyn-J Dixon and many others, but that’s not all.

A few years ago, it seemed as if Clemson was still a step behind on building up its offensive line and the Tigers had to rely on speedy athletes to make plays in the offense. Now, the Tigers have one of the best offensive line units in the nation and the group continues to get deeper.

Throughout the month of August, Rubbing the Rock will be previewing each position group individually. Today, let’s take a look at the offensive line.

Projected Depth Chart:

LT- Jackson Carman

  • Blake Vinson

LG- John Simpson

  • Matt Bockhorst

C- Sean Pollard

  • Cade Stewart

RG- Gage Cervenka

  • Chandler Reeves or Will Putnam

RT- Tremayne Anchrum

  • Jordan McFadden

Offensive Line Preview:

The starting group of offensive linemen really is a group of veterans with one talented underclassman. John Simpson, Sean Pollard, Gage Cervenka and Tremayne Anchrum all have starter experience and they’ve all been in the weight room getting stronger.

Interestingly enough, Cervenka can do 44 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press, which was more than any offensive lineman at last year’s NFL Combine.

That kind of strength in the interior, mixed with versatility from Carman and Anchrum has the Tigers exactly where they want to be in terms of the offensive line. This group can open up lanes for the running game and drop back in pass-protection. They’re going to be a tough unit for opposing front-sevens to deal with and there’s really no doubt about it.

In the second-string, Clemson football will try to build depth with talented players and get them experience for the 2020 season when many of these veterans will graduate and move on to the next level.

This is going to be an exciting group for Robbie Caldwell to coach and there’s no questioning their potential as a whole coming into this season.
