As the 2019 Clemson football season approaches, Rubbing the Rock will be giving a preview at each position. Here’s a look at the QBs.

In just a few short weeks, the Clemson football team will officially take the field again. The Tigers will open up the 2019 season with a home game against Georgia Tech on a Thursday night.

The game is the debut event for the newly-launched ACC Network.

The 2019 Clemson football team will be looking to defend its National Championship and become one of just a handful of programs to win back-to-back titles in the history of CFB.

Through the next few weeks, Rubbing the Rock will preview every aspect of the upcoming Clemson football season. Here’s a look at the quarterbacks heading into the season.

Projected Depth Chart:

Starter: Trevor Lawrence

  • Chase Brice
  • Ben Batson or Taisun Phommachanh

Quarterbacks Preview:

Trevor Lawrence is the unquestioned starter coming into the 2019 Clemson football season. The talented sophomore led the Tigers to a perfect 15-0 season and a National Championship in his freshman campaign.

Lawrence is now considered one of the favorites to win the Heisman Trophy this year and has a ton of expectations resting on his shoulders. Lawrence’s arm strength and ability to read defenses is what sets him apart from the rest of the quarterback in all of CFB.

He’ll need to play loose and work on extending plays with both his arm and legs to continue to improve.

Behind Lawrence, Chase Brice is one of the best backup quarterbacks in the nation. Brice will get his opportunities this season and will rely on accuracy and being a solid game manager for the Tigers.

Ben Batson will likely fill the third-string role, but we’ll also see true-freshman Taisun Phommachanh (a 4-star out of high school) play in up to four games this season before he ultimately redshirts. Phommachanh has a strong arm and is extremely athletic. That dual-threat ability should be fun for Tiger fans to watch.
