Clemson Football: Texans projected to finish last in AFC South
Clemson Football West- also known as the Houston Texas- is projected to finish last in the AFC South by USA Today’s latest record predictions.
The Deshaun Watson-DeAndre ‘Nuk’ Hopkins Clemson football connection isn’t expected to be enough for the Houston Texans this season, according to USA Today.
The publication released its record predictions for the upcoming season and had the Texans finishing with a record of 6-10, good enough for last in the AFC South.
USA Today has the Indianapolis Colts (10-6) winning the division via a tiebreaker with the Jacksonville Jaguars (10-6) and the Tennessee Titans third with a record of 9-7.
The Texans have come to be loved by Clemson football fans recently with Watson as the starting quarterback and Hopkins being featured as the best wide receiver in the game. Houston also has former Clemson football players DJ Reader and Carlos Watkins on its defense. With those connections, it seems that Tiger fans have taken a rooting interest to seeing those players and the team perform well.
USA Today doesn’t believe in the Texans particularly because of two issues: Their offensive line and their secondary.
The Texans lose several key pieces in its defensive backfield that could lead to them giving up some big plays in the passing game, but the bigger issue is the offensive line.
The offensive line unit was one of the best in the league last season and the unit had Deshaun Watson running for his life every single game.
Watson had to scramble and then make plays with both his arm and legs all season long with the offensive line never improving. The Texans will face some talented pass-rushers in the division and that could lead to trouble as they attempt to get back to the playoffs for a second season.
In my opinion, 6-10 is far too low as far as record is concerned. Even with the offensive line issues, the Texans have a ton of star power and plenty of fireworks to make a run back to playoffs if they can stay healthy.
That is a big ‘if,’ but there’s certainly reason for optimism. Clemson football fans will likely be pleased with what they see out of Deshaun Watson and ‘Nuk’ Hopkins, especially, and they’ll certainly be competitive in one of the deepest divisions in the NFL.
