Clemson football sophomore cornerback Kyler McMichael has entered his name into the NCAA Transfer Portal, according to several reports.

Weeks before the start of fall camp, Clemson football sophomore CB Kyler McMichael has entered his name into the NCAA Transfer Portal.

McMichael, who saw limited playing time as a reserve last season, was listed as AJ Terrell’s backup at cornerback on the post-spring depth chart, which was revealed this week.

He was expected to compete for playing time in the two-deep and may would’ve even had a chance to earn a starting position before it was all said and done.

Clemson football WR Derion Kendrick moved over to cornerback during spring practice and was an instant star. Kendrick was listed as the starter at cornerback in the post-spring depth chart with Mario Goodrich listed as his backup.

We haven’t heard the reasoning for why McMichael has put his name in the NCAA Transfer Portal, but it likely is linked to playing time.

With Kendrick expected to be the starter at the cornerback spot opposite side of AJ Terrell, McMichael was set to be entrenched in a battle with Mario Goodrich, as well as promising freshmen Sheridan Jones and Andrew Booth.

Jones, a 4-star prospect, had a very good spring and was one of the outstanding performers of the 2019 Clemson football spring game.

Booth, who arrived on campus just a few weeks ago, was a 5-star CB and is one of the best pure coverage cornerbacks to come out of high school in quite some time.

It very well could be that the two freshmen looked promising in summer workouts and that’s why McMichael ultimately decided that he wanted to transfer.

Whatever the case may be, the Tigers are still very deep at cornerback, but it certainly was a bit surprising to see that the sophomore was seeking a transfer option.
