Former Clemson football DT Grady Jarrett just signed an extremely lucrative deal with the Atlanta Falcons. Jarrett is now set for years to come.

Former Clemson football DT Grady Jarrett signed a 4-year, $68 million contract with the Atlanta Falcons, according to reports.

The deal beat the deadline (4 p.m. Monday) for multi-year contracts for franchise-tagged players. Jarrett, who has been in the NFL for the past four seasons, signed the $15.2 million franchise tag back in April.

Jarrett earned a starting spot during the 2016 season and has been an important piece of the interior line for the Falcons ever since. Last season, he totaled 52 tackles and six sacks, as well as eight tackles for loss.

Interestingly enough, he wasn’t drafted until the fifth round but has since emerged as one of the best defensive tackles in the league. With the new contract, Jarrett is now the third-highest paid defensive tackle in the game.

Thoughts:

It’s good to see a former Clemson football player earning a huge contract and making a splash in the NFL. Jarrett was a solid defensive tackle at Clemson, but wasn’t taken earlier than the fifth round because of his size, especially his height.

Jarrett has done a fantastic job with the Falcons anchoring the interior of that defensive line. The thing that Jarrett does better than just about anybody is he keeps his motor going. He doesn’t give up on plays and never stops. That tenacity and relentless are what led to that big contract.

Jarrett is just 26 years old, so he will be able to negotiate yet another big contract at the age of 31 if he proves that he can have staying power in the NFL long-term.
