Many players would’ve transferred by now, but TJ Chase and Cornell Powell have been waiting for their chance to shine in the Clemson football program.

TJ Chase and Cornell Powell are two guys that have stuck around the Clemson football program despite not getting a ton of playing time early on in their careers.

Though some Tiger fans didn’t like Powell’s conduct at a Clemson basketball game when he wore a UNC shirt when the Tigers were playing the Tarheels, it still should be noted that both he and Chase have stuck with the program despite rumors at times that they were going to transfer.

As we prepare for the 2019 Clemson football season, both Powell and Chase will have an opportunity to earn playing time for the first time in their respective careers.

Both Powell and Chase have seen playing time sparingly over the past couple of years, but they have been outshined by the likes of Hunter Renfrow, Ray Ray McCloud, Deon Cain and plenty of current Clemson football players.

While they both came in as highly-recruited prospects, they haven’t quite become a major part of the rotation, but that could change this season.

Powell and Chase will compete, likely with Diondre Overton, for the starting position at slot receiver.

With Amari Rodgers out for the first part of the season, they’ll both get to platoon at the position. If they earn the trust of their coaches, it could very well be a situation where we see that playing time increase over the course of the season.

While many Clemson football fans are excited to see Tee Higgins, Justyn Ross, Derion Kendrick, Frank Ladson and Joe Ngata hit the field, but they shouldn’t forget about Powell and Chase who will have a chance to earn playing time and set the tone as veterans.
