Clemson football will open up the 2019 season at home on a Thursday night. When’s the last time a Thursday game was played in Death Valley?

It’s been quite some time since Clemson football played a home Thursday night game.

The Tigers have been scheduled for a couple of Thursday and Friday night games over the course of the past few seasons, but none have been at home.

As a matter of fact, you have to go all the way back to 2013 to find the last time Clemson football played a game in Death Valley that wasn’t on a Saturday.

The Tigers will open up the 2019 season with a Thursday night game against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets live on the ACC Network. Interestingly enough, the last time Clemson played on a Thursday night in Death Valley, it was against the Yellow Jackets.

Clemson, led by the likes of Tajh Boyd and Sammy Watkins, defeated Georgia Tech 55-31 on a crisp November night. The Tigers would go on to finish the season 11-2 with a win over Ohio State in the Orange Bowl.

Thursday night games are certainly not the most convenient for traveling Clemson football fans- or the campus for that matter- but they still can present a different kind of atmosphere. Opening up on a Thursday night is rather exciting for the Tigers.

Clemson is going to be featured heavily as the ACC Network launches and that’s going to bring a lot of eyes into Tiger Town. There’s really no other program that the network should feature to kick off the season considering Clemson has carried the conference in football for the past half-decade.

Classes are canceled for that Thursday and parking lots around the campus will open for fans at 2 p.m., according to ClemsonTigers.com. It should be a fun afternoon of tailgating for those taking the day off from work and a great way to kick off the season.
