Clemson Football: Deshaun Watson ranked No. 13 NFL QB for 2019
Former Clemson football QB Deshaun Watson was ranked the No. 13 overall quarterback in the NFL for the upcoming 2019 season by Sporting News.
Sporting News released its 2019 rankings for the QB position and it had former Clemson football QB Deshaun Watson listed No. 13 overall.
Watson, who helped lead the Texans to a playoff berth last season, is expected to take huge steps forward in Houston this coming season. He has the best wide receiver in the league in fellow Clemson football alumni DeAndre ‘Nuk’ Hopkins and the two make up one of the most explosive QB-WR punches in the league.
Though Watson was invited to the Pro Bowl last season, Sporting News still thinks he has some work to do before becoming an elite QB at the professional level. Here’s a look at the publication’s top-10.
- Patrick Mahomes (Kansas City Chiefs)
- Aaron Rodgers (Green Bay Packers)
- Tom Brady (New England Patriots)
- Drew Brees (New Orleans Saints)
- Russell Wilson (Seattle Seahawks)
- Andrew Luck (Indianapolis Colts)
- Phillip Rivers (LA Chargers)
- Matt Ryan (Atlanta Falcons)
- Baker Mayfield (Cleveland Browns)
- Ben Roethlisberger (Pittsburgh Steelers)
Thoughts:
The problem for Watson, more than anything, has been a high interception rate and the fact that he has had to scramble for his life behind one of the NFL’s worst offensive lines.
It’s tough, in my opinion, to put the likes of some of these other guys behind him. When he’s done so much with very little other than Hopkins, Watson deserves a little more respect.
He’ll certainly have the opportunity to earn it, though, as the Texans enter this season.
Watson has put the league on notice for the incredible ability that he possesses and he’s only going to take a step forward this season with a few more pieces and, hopefully, a better offensive line.
