The 2019 ESPN FPI predictions have been released for the upcoming season. Here’s what the metric predicts for Clemson football.

The ESPN Football Power Index (FPI) is a tool the company uses to measure the percentage-chance of a given team winning a game, taking into account many different metrics.

The 2019 ESPN FPI has been released with game-by-game predictions for the vast majority of teams around the nation, including Clemson football.

FPI gives Clemson football a projected win-loss record of 12.3-0.7 with a 48.9 percent chance to win-out and an 88.2 percent chance to win the conference. Overall, the Tigers have the top FPI grade in the country with an overall score of 29.2. For reference, Alabama is second with a grade of 27.9 and Georgia is No. 3 with a grade of 22.3.

What this means is that the FPI believes there is around a half chance that the Tigers go undefeated. At worst, in the FPI’s mind, the Tigers would go 12-1. It has them finishing right in the middle between 13-0 and 12-1.

Here’s a look at ESPN FPI’s percentage chances for Clemson football in each of its matchups this season.

  • Georgia Tech (98.8)
  • Texas A&M (88.5)
  • @ Syracuse (93.7)
  • Charlotte (99.7)
  • @ North Carolina (95.0)
  • Florida State (92.3)
  • @ Louisville (96.6)
  • Boston College (98.2)
  • Wofford (99.7)
  • @ NC State (93.4)
  • Wake Forest (97.8)
  • South Carolina (85.1)

The Tigers have just two games on the schedule that are less than 90 percent chances that they win- Texas A&M and South Carolina- according to the FPI.

Even both of those games are about 85 percent. It’s clear that the Tigers are expected to be heavy favorites this season in every game and we very well may not see a spread under two touchdowns this season when looking at the schedule.

Clemson is a talented team and the FPI recognizes that. It’s be interesting to see what the Tigers are able to do and how they perform over the course of this season.
