The 2018 Clemson football team has been nominated for the award ‘Best Team’ as part of the annual ESPY Awards, hosted by ESPN.
The 2019 ESPY Awards will be announced live on Wednesday, July 10 from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, California.
Each year, ESPN nominates teams and individuals for many different awards spotlighting them for great achievements throughout the calendar year.
As part of the nominations, the 2018 Clemson football team was selected as a nominee for the award ‘Best Team.’ Joining the Tigers are the Boston Red Sox, New England Patriots, Baylor women’s basketball team, Virginia men’s basketball team and the U.S. Women’s National Team.
Fans can vote for which team they feel deserves the award and the winner will be announced at the awards show in a little less than a week from now.
With massive national fan bases, the Red Sox and Patriots will probably be considered the favorites to win the award. The U.S. Women’s National Team with their run through the World Cup will also be considered.
As far as collegiate teams go, though, the Tigers certainly have the largest fan base of the three listed. The one area that Clemson football has an advantage is in their record.
There’s never been a perfect 15-0 team in the modern history of College Football. That perfect record and the dominance with which the Tigers won the National Championship against Alabama will certainly allow them a chance at winning the award, which would just be another feather in the already-full cap of Dabo Swinney.
Win or lose, this is another great marketing opportunity for the Clemson football program. It’s another chance for the Tigers to be shown and celebrated on a national platform, which only helps build the brand and help recruiting that much more.
