One of the top remaining targets for Clemson football in the 2020 cycle is 5-star DE Jordan Burch, but his recruitment is far from over.

The 2020 Clemson football recruiting class is ranked No. 1 in the nation, and for good reason.

The Tigers have commitments from several 5-stars, including QB DJ Uiagalelei, RB Demarkcus Bowman, DL Bryan Bresee, DE Myles Murphy, DT Demonte Capehart and DB Fred Davis.

Though the class is already going to be one of the top few in the nation, the Tigers still have a few targets left in the 2020 recruiting cycle. The biggest name is 5-star DE Jordan Burch.

Burch, a prospect from Columbia, SC, took a visit to Tuscaloosa, Alabama this weekend for Nick Saban’s annual barbeque.

An enigma…

For the early parts of his recruitment, Burch was considered a lean to Clemson football. However, during the spring, all of that changed.

Burch visited South Carolina three weeks in a row, including choosing to go to the Gamecocks’ spring game over Clemson’s. Since that point, it was thought that South Carolina was the favorite to win his services.

Burch also took a visit to Athens, GA and is at the very least showing some interest in the Bulldogs.

The problem is this: Burch and his mother have kept his recruitment extremely close to the vest. There isn’t any information being leaked and interest isn’t being gauged by recruiting experts or analysts.

Right now, I think he’s probably the most up-in-the-air 5-star remaining in the 2020 class. Is Clemson out of the discussion? Of course not.

But, it also wouldn’t be surprising to see him commit to South Carolina, or even Alabama or Georgia at this point. Looking from the outside in, I’m not sure that Burch knows where he wants to go yet. He’s going to take his time and weigh the options before making a decision, at least that’s how it seems.

Most likely, this comes down to an in-state battle. Currently, I would say that South Carolina holds the edge, but we at least have to acknowledge the fact that both Alabama and Georgia are factors for the 5-star Defensive End’s services.

To gauge his interest in Clemson, we need to look at the All-In Cookout later in July. If Burch attends, that bodes well for the Tigers. If not, that probably tells us a lot of what we need to know as far as his recruitment and priorities are concerned.

Burch is rated as the No. 1 player in the country by 247 Sports’ Composite Player Rankings.
