Clemson Football: Tigers take TE prospect from FSU’s backyard
The 2020 Clemson football recruiting class picked up its 18th commitment when 3-star TE Sage Ennis announced his commitment to the Tigers.
Clemson football picked up its 18th commitment of the 2020 cycle when 3-star TE Sage Ennis announced his decision Monday afternoon.
Ennis, a Tallahassee, FL native, received a scholarship offer from Willie Taggart and Florida State just a few weeks ago. He was staunchly considered a Seminole lean, but then everything changed when he came to Clemson football’s camp last week.
Ennis was one of the top performers at the camp and impressed a bunch of onlookers when he made a one-handed grab during the drills.
After watching him at camp and already knowing what kind of player he was on film, the Clemson football coaching staff decided to extend an offer.
Ennis told Tigernet that he knew for a while that he wanted to go to Clemson, but was just waiting on an offer from the Tigers. When the offer was extended, he knew at that moment where he’d be attending school.
He is rated as the No. 20 tight end in the nation, according to 247 Sports’ Composite Rankings. Ennis measures at 6-foot-4 and 220 pounds.
Ennis has good hands for a tight end and is a balanced option at the position. He is capable of running routes and making plays in the passing game, but is also a physical blocker that isn’t afraid of contact. He doesn’t have elite breakaway speed and will need to adjust to the speed of the game at the collegiate level, but certainly has the tools to develop into a solid tight end in college.
With his commitment, the Tigers now have their tight end in the 2020 cycle. The coaching staff still may pursue 5-star TE Arik Gilbert should he show interest, but other than that the position will pretty much shut down.
Ennis will join a tight end room that includes Braden Galloway (who will be finished with his suspension) as well as Jaelyn Lay (who will be a sophomore) and Davis Allen (who will be a sophomore) when he arrives on campus later this year.
