Clemson Football: Justyn Ross ranked No. 2 wide receiver in the country
Clemson football wide receiver Justyn Ross was ranked as the No. 2 wide receiver in the country coming into the 2019 CFB season.
There wasn’t a more dominant freshman wide receiver in the nation than Clemson football’s Justyn Ross.
Ross led the Tigers in receiving yardage with 46 receptions for 1,000 yards and nine touchdowns. During the early parts of the season, he was used sparingly as he adjusted to system, but grew into a huge contributor basically earning starter reps by the end of the season.
Earlier this spring, 247 Sports released its projections for the top 25 wide receivers in the nation for the 2019 season.
Clemson football had two Tigers make the top-10 list with Ross coming in at No. 2 and Tee Higgins at No. 8. Here’s a look at the top-10, according to 247 Sports.
- Jerry Jeudy, Alabama
- Justyn Ross, Clemson
- Ceedee Lamb, Oklahoma
- Tylan Wallace, Oklahoma State
- Rondale Moore, Purdue
- Laviska Shenault Jr., Colorado
- Henry Ruggs III, Alabama
- Tee Higgins, Clemson
- Jalen Reagor, TCU
- Jaylen Waddle, Alabama
Thoughts:
There’s a lot of love for Alabama’s wide receiver core coming into this season. While I agree that the Crimson Tide have a lot of talent in that group, I wouldn’t rank Henry Ruggs III ahead of Tee Higgins.
Jeudy and Ross, honestly, are washes. Ross certainly proved to be the more effective option in the National Championship game.
Outside of the Clemson-Alabama discussion, I really like Ceedee Lamb as a dominant wide receiver from Oklahoma and Rondale Moore from Purdue. Moore is an explosive play-maker that has the ability to be one of the top receivers taken in the NFL Draft.
Overall, I know that 247 Sports really likes Alabama’s wide receiver room with three receivers inside the top-10, but I am pretty confident with Clemson’s group of receivers.
