The 2019 Clemson football season is less than three months away. ESPN gave Tiger fans a game that they should ‘beware’ early in the year.

ESPN released a list pinpointing a single game that each top-25 football team should ‘beware’ for their respective upcoming season.

For the 2019 Clemson football team, the answer was fairly obvious: The Tigers should keep their eye on the road matchup with the Syracuse Orange.

The past couple of seasons, Syracuse has given Clemson trouble. The Orange beat the Tigers up in the Carrier Dome two years ago when Kelly Bryant went down with an injury and they came really close to upsetting the Tigers in Death Valley last season when Trevor Lawrence went down with an injury.

The article notes that Syracuse will likely be the biggest competition for Clemson football in the ACC this season and that the Orange will be putting all the chips on the table for this one as they look to upset the Tigers once again.

Early Thoughts:

Though I do agree that Syracuse has given fits to Clemson in the past and that the Orange will be completely hyped up for this match up, I’m beginning to think more and more that this one won’t be a problem for the Tigers.

Why?

The answer is pretty obvious: When’s the last time every banged the drum of ‘upset’ and it actually happened to Clemson?

The games the Tigers have struggled in have come when we weren’t necessarily expecting it. Syracuse is going to have Clemson’s full attention. The Tigers know the Orange has given them trouble the past couple of years and I’m thinking more and more that we’re going to see a situation similar to NC State last season.

Everyone talked about how the Wolfpack had matched up well against Clemson, but then the Tigers just showed up and cleaned house. I’m not saying that’s going to happen, but that’s the feeling I get early on about this game.
