The 2020 Clemson football recruiting class received a commitment from 3-star Tyler Venables this past weekend. What does the safety bring to the Tigers?

The 2020 Clemson football recruiting class picked up its 17th commitment of the cycle when 3-star S Tyler Venables committed to the Tigers this past weekend.

Venables- the son of Clemson football defensive coordinator Brent Venables- was always expected to commit to the Tigers, just as his brother Jake did a couple of years ago.

He plays for Daniel High School and is an extremely talented athlete. Venables plays quarterback and has thrown for more than 3,000 yards and rushed for close to 1,000. If you watch much of his film, you’ll see that Venables is a one-man show in many cases and that he is a leader on that Daniel High School football team.

Analysis:

Venables is a physical defensive back with quick wheels. He runs a 4.53 40-yard dash and has a 34.4 inch vertical.

Those are elite measurables that the Tiger coaching staff can develop into a solid defensive back before it’s all said and done. In addition to being an all-around talented and skilled athlete, he has been mentored by one of the best defensive minds in the game in Brent Venables.

You can tell that his football IQ is high and that he has a great understanding of the game. In addition to picking up a really talented athlete, this also proves that Brent Venables is committed to the Clemson football program. He doesn’t have any plans of leaving for the next few years as he’ll be able to coach both of his sons should he choose to stay with the Tigers.

Venables is a bit shorter than what you’d like to see out of a safety, but he still has the potential to develop into a solid collegiate football player.
