Vonta Bentley will join the Clemson football team with a major chance to make an immediate impact. The Tigers will rely on the freshman early in his career.
Throughout the last month, we have been giving you a breakdown of each 2019 Clemson football freshman.
Though many of the young Tigers will have an opportunity to compete for playing time this season, there may not be any more important than Vonta Bentley.
Bentley, a 4-star LB from Birmingham, AL, will be stepping on campus with the opportunity to make an immediate impact, and in many respects he’ll be relied upon for major snaps early in his career.
Let’s take a look at what Tiger fans can expect from Bentley this fall.
Talent Analysis:
Vonta Bentley is just flat-out physical. He is a guy that initiates contact and gets after the ball-carrier. He will need to make strides in pass-coverage, but still is a guy that has the talent and ability to get on the field right away.
Most likely, he will project as a WILL, or he could potentially move inside after a year or two in the weight room.
Bentley is a tough guy to block and he’s great in pursuit. Those characteristics and traits are what set him apart. He’ll be able to use those raw instincts to make some plays early on.
Immediate Impact?
With Shaq Smith transferring out of the program, Bentley has an opening to factor into the two-deep this season.
His playing time will be determined on how fast he can pick up on the system. The Tigers have James Skalski, Chad Smith and Isaiah Simmons penciled in as starters with Mike Jones Jr., Baylon Spector and Jake Venables as backups, but there certainly is a window for Bentley to come in and make a major impact for the Tigers.
