The 2019 Clemson football offense has a chance to be elite, but the Tigers are ranked behind both Alabama and Oklahoma in the preseason.
Clemson football comes into the 2019 season as one of the favorites to get back to the CFB Playoff and compete for another National Championship.
One of the major reasons why is the lethal and explosive offense that the Tigers are projected to have with a plethora of depth at the skill positions and a talented, experienced offensive line.
Clemson will return Trevor Lawrence- the nation’s top QB- for his sophomore season, as well as many talented play-makers, including Justyn Ross, Tee Higgins and Travis Etienne to name a few.
When talking about depth, there’s no program that can compare. The Tigers have elite depth at the wide receiver position with plenty of 4-stars and 5-stars to go around, as well as one of the best backup running backs in the nation in Lyn-J Dixon, who is set to have a big year. Top that all off with the undisputed best backup quarterback in the nation in Chase Brice, and you can see where all the hype is coming from.
Bleacher Report ranked the offenses around the nation for the 2019 season and had the Tigers third in the nation, behind both Oklahoma and Alabama.
Thoughts:
To a point, I can understand Alabama. The Crimson Tide return Tua Tagovailoa, Jerry Jeudy, Henry Ruggs III, Devonta Smith, and some talented running backs led by Najee Harris.
But, I’m not sure how Oklahoma can come in at No. 1 with an unproven quarterback (no offense to Jalen Hurts) and without one of their top wide receiver from last year in Marquise Brown. The Sooners return CeeDee Lamb and a couple of talented running backs, though, and should be explosive offensively.
But, when you look at three offenses side-by-side, I’m just not sure you can rank the Sooners and the Crimson Tide ahead of Clemson.
The Tigers have the best quarterback in the nation. They have maintained continuity in the coaching staff. They have one of the top two running backs in the nation, and they have the best duo of wide receivers in the country.
In the end, it will all play out on the field, but I would take that Tiger offense and what it just did to Alabama over any other offense in the nation and certainly wouldn’t have any trouble sleeping at night.
