4-star Clemson football target EJ Williams is closing in on a decision and told Rivals.com that he has a new leader in his recruitment process.
4-star Clemson football target EJ Williams is closing in on a decision.
Earlier this week, Williams released a top-seven that included Clemson, Florida, Auburn, Tennessee, Alabama, LSU and Oklahoma.
He is regarded as the top wide receiver target remaining for Clemson football in the 2020 recruiting cycle, but it seems that the Tigers have a little bit of work to do heading into the summer. Williams told Bama Insider, a Rivals.com website, that if he had to name a leader right now that the Crimson Tide would be on top.
The Phenix City, Alabama prospect is expected to announce his decision on August 24, the day that his father died.
From all accounts, Williams has loved his visits to Clemson, but it seems that Alabama may have taken the lead here just a couple of months out from his commitment date. Williams is expected to be back in Clemson for the All-In Cookout later this summer.
The last great wide receiver to come out of Phenix City committed to the Tigers over Alabama. That was Justyn Ross.
Williams could follow in Ross’s footsteps, but there are several different factors in his decision that he will consider with all seven of his top schools before officially deciding in August.
Even though he may have said that Bama is on top currently, Clemson is still in great position to land his services when it’s all said and done.
The Tigers will look to take at least one wide receiver in this 2020 recruiting cycle, but most likely two. Other than Williams, Clemson is targeting 4-star Keandre Lambert and 4-star Xzavier Henderson at the position. It is the expectation that another prospect could emerge over the course of the summer.
