Clemson football freshman Brannon Spector has some big shoes to fill as he steps in wearing that No. 13 uniform, previously worn by Hunter Renfrow.
Tyler Grisham, Adam Humphries and Hunter Renfrow.
There has been a legacy of solid slot wide receivers wearing No. 13 for Clemson football. The next in line at that lineage is Brannon Spector.
Spector, a 3-star WR from Calhoun, GA, was one of 29 prospects to sign with Clemson football in the 2019 class.
As we continue our series looking at each freshman, let’s take a look at Brannon Spector and his ability to become the next great wide receiver to wear No. 13.
Talent Analysis:
If you’re talking about pure talent, Spector is the most talented wide receiver out of the group (Renfrow, Humphries and Grisham).
He is bigger and taller than Renfrow and has a bit more speed than the other guys. Spector is more than just a catching wide receiver. When he has the ball in his hands, he’s able to make guys miss and become a play-maker.
He has the talent and ability to become a solid slot wide receiver. I’m not sure that his hands have quite developed into what Hunter Renfrow possessed, but he will have time to develop and become a solid wide receiver at that slot position.
Spector shows good foot work and is able to find holes in the defense. He’ll need to become that safety blanket for the Clemson football quarterbacks, which takes time and chemistry.
Immediate Impact?
Most likely, the Tigers will be looking to play him in four games and redshirt him. With others like Diondre Overton, Cornell Powell and TJ Chase occupying the slot this season, Spector will get a year to develop and then will be on the fast track to compete for playing time next season after a year in the weight room and the system.
