Today, we continue our series analyzing each 2019 Clemson football freshman with a look at defensive lineman Logan Cash, an early enrollee.
Throughout the early parts of summer, Rubbing the Rock is bringing you an analysis of each 2019 Clemson football freshman.
The Tigers signed a grand total of 29 prospects, and 17 are mid-year enrollees.
Among those 17 mid-year enrollees is defensive lineman Logan Cash. Cash, a 6-foot-3, 270 pound prospect from Winder, Georgia, was a 3-star according to 247 Sports’ Composite Player Rankings.
Analysis:
You could project Logan Cash at multiple positions. He could potentially play strong-side defensive end. He also could play the 3-technique in the interior defensive line. Right now, that seems to be the consensus following the spring.
Cash played defensive tackle for the majority of the spring and will look to compete for playing time there over the next couple of seasons.
At 270 pounds, he’ll likely put on a little more weight. Cash is physical and has a motor that never stops. His lower body strength is unmatched by his opponents on film and he is able to drive guys out of the stance and work his way to the quarterback. Cash doesn’t necessarily have the speed to play outside at defensive end, and that’s why the coaches are working him inside.
If defensive line doesn’t work out, the Tigers could transition Cash over to offensive line, where he would likely play guard or center.
His physicality, strength and motor are what caught the eyes of the Clemson football coaching staff and earned him an offer.
Immediate Impact?
I don’t expect Logan Cash to make a major impact as a freshman. The one aspect he has working for him is the fact that the Tigers are thin at defensive tackle. Cash could potentially work his way onto the depth chart just because the Tigers may need bodies, especially if there are any injuries.
That being said, I expect the plan is to redshirt him. He’ll get a year in the weight room and come back in 2020 more ready to contribute and compete for playing time.
