Clemson Football: CBS Analyst compares Ryan Hilinski to DJ Uiagalelei
Clemson football received a commitment from 5-star QB DJ Uiagalelei this weekend. CBS Analyst Tom Lemming compared him with SC QB Ryan Hilinski.
The 2020 Clemson football recruiting class is, without a doubt, one of the best in the history of CFB. The Tigers have 14 commitments, four of which are 5-stars and the rest of which are 4-stars.
The class isn’t done yet, either.
5-star QB DJ Uiagalelei was the latest addition to the class when he announced his commitment to the Clemson football program this past Sunday afternoon.
Sports Talk SC had CBS Analyst Tom Lemming on its program Monday evening to talk about the commitment and many other topics.
When discussing the Tigers’ and the Gamecocks’ QBs of the future, Lemming said that Uiagalelei was more talented, but that Hilinski was the better passer and had the potential of being the better overall quarterback.
First of all, it should be pointed out that Lemming was complimentary of Clemson’s recruiting efforts and the big brand that the Tigers have built, but that’s just an uninformed comment.
Sports Talk SC has always been a Gamecock-leaning show and, to me, that just seems like Lemming is giving a comment to appeal to the listeners.
Hilinski doesn’t have the better arm and isn’t the better passer. Uiagalelei has one of the strongest arms in the nation and, honestly, could start for any program across the nation not named Clemson or Alabama this season.
Hilinski is a talented player and he’s going to be a good quarterback for South Carolina. But, there’s a difference in the two and their potential.
Hilinski has the potential to be a mid-first round pick. Uiagalelei has the potential to be the No. 1 overall pick. That’s the difference and it’s not really that hard to see.
