Clemson Football: What will 5-star RB Demarkcus Bowman bring to Tigers?
5-star running back Demarkcus Bowman committed to Clemson football Friday afternoon. What will he bring to Tiger Town?
The 2020 Clemson football recruiting class got richer Friday afternoon when 5-star RB Demarkcus Bowman announced that he would be committing to the Tigers.
Bowman did so using a video where he showcased his family, friends and high school and made the decision with EA Sport’s NCAA Football.
He became the third 247 Sports’ Composite 5-star in the class, joining Bryan Bresee and Fred Davis as the other two.
With his commitment, Bowman lifted Clemson football back up to No. 1 in the overall composite rankings ahead of both Alabama and LSU.
What does Demarkcus Bowman bring to the Clemson football program? Here’s our analysis.
Analysis:
If you’re looking for a comparison, as far as players are concerned, I think a good place to start is Dalvin Cook.
Bowman doesn’t necessarily have the same frame as Cook, though. When Dalvin Cook came to FSU, he was much smaller than what Bowman will be when he comes to Clemson. Bowman is a thick runner, but the comparison comes in explosiveness.
Bowman has the same kind of north-south hard running style that Cook possessed his entire collegiate career. All it takes is one missed tackle or opening and he’s off to the races.
He has a verified sub 4.5 40-time and is that prototypical home run back. Bowman is able to run in between the tackles and can use that explosiveness to power over defenders at times when called upon. If he gets an open lane or a head of steam, he’s a hard guy to bring down.
Bowman is going to be able to come in right away and compete in the two-deep at running back. With Travis Etienne most likely gone after this season, the Tigers will have Bowman, Lyn-J Dixon, Michel Dukes and Chez Mellusi on the roster.
Clemson will likely take one more running back in this cycle. The Tigers are recruiting 4-star Daniyel Ngata heavily. 4-star Jaylan Knighton is another guy that the Tigers have shown interest, as well.
