Clemson Football: Why did Bryan Bresee drop from No. 1 in the nation?
Clemson football commit Bryan Bresee dropped from the No. 1 spot in the 247 Sports’ Composite player rankings. Why did he drop?
The 2020 Clemson football recruiting class is currently ranked No. 3 in the nation and is entrenched in a battle with Alabama and LSU for the top class for the cycle.
The latest commitment for the Tigers was 5-star DL Bryan Bresee.
Bresee is a dominant lineman that can play both defensive end and on the interior. He is comparable to JJ Watt and has the ability to come in and garner playing time right away. Bresee is strong, but also has quick athleticism and finesse that just shouldn’t be coming from a frame like his.
Despite the fact that Bresee is one of the most dominant players to come out of high school in quite some time, he just recently fell from No. 1 in the 247 Sports’ Composite rankings to No. 2 in the nation, behind 5-star running back Zachary Evans.
The real question is: Why?
It should be noted, first of all, that 247 Sports’ rankings still has Bresee as the No. 1 player in the nation. However, the composite rankings take into account several different services and their rankings. Bresee is the No. 6 player in the nation, according to Rivals, and the No. 8 player in the nation, according to ESPN.
ESPN previously had Bresee as No. 4 in the nation, but after his commitment they moved him back four spots. Starting to make sense?
The truth is that analysts need something to talk about and they need to keep their recruiting services “shiny.” Had Bresee not already committed to Clemson football, he’d still be a top-five prospect. But, since he is now committed, they want to move guys- like Evans- ahead of him who aren’t committed to prop up viewership.
There also may be a bit of a southeastern bias, especially on ESPN’s recruiting site.
Either way, don’t fret. Bresee is the real deal and he is going to prove it no matter where he finishes ranked. I expect that we’ll see him move back up the rankings after this summer and it certainly won’t take long before analysts notice his dominance again and come back to their senses.
