Clemson Football: Tigers fall in latest 2020 team recruiting rankings
After rising to No. 1 in the nation, Clemson football took a small fall in the updated 247 Sports’ Composite Team Rankings for the 2020 cycle.
The 247 Sports’ Composite Team Rankings is constantly updating.
The composite rankings takes a team’s commitments by a ratings system and adds that up to get a number. The total number determines how many points a program has in the cycle. The higher the points, the higher the ranking.
Because of that, small changes in individual player ratings can change a team’s overall class ranking.
Last week, Clemson football received a commitment from 5-star DE Bryan Bresee. Bresee, at the time, was the No. 1 overall player in the nation. With his commitment, the Tigers moved to No. 1 in the nation.
Since then, though, there have been a few changes that have knocked the Tigers down a couple of slots.
The first thing that must be recognized is the rise of LSU in the rankings. The Bayou Bengals were ranked No. 3 in the nation last week. The Tigers went on to get commitments from 4-star LB Antoine Sampah and 5-star WR Rakim Jarrett that bolstered them into the No. 1 spot in the nation.
Alabama also picked up a commitment from 4-star ATH Drew Sanders just a couple of days ago. Because of that, Clemson is now currently No. 3 in the nation.
LSU leads the 2020 cycle with 14 commitments (256.80 overall points, 93.84 AVG), with Alabama slightly behind with 16 commitments (255.30 points, 92.31 AVG). Clemson currently sits solidly in third with 246.34 total points and a nation-leading average of 95.25 with just 12 commits.
We’ll get into this a little more in-depth over the coming weeks, but unfortunately bias can play a big part in these rankings. ESPN just updated its rankings, dropping Bryan Bresee big time. In turn, that made him drop from No. 1 overall in the 247 Sports’ Composite Rankings to No. 2, really for no reason at all.
DJ Uiagalelei, a Clemson football target, is now currently ranked No. 13 in the nation after being in the top-10 previously.
