Clemson football coach Dabo Swinney signed a lucrative deal last week which will essentially keep him in Tiger Town for as long as he chooses to stay.

Clemson football coach Dabo Swinney reportedly signed a 10-year, $93 million last Friday, which was the largest deal in CFB history.

Swinney’s contract surpassed that of Jimbo Fisher’s at Texas A&M (10-year, $75 million), which was previously the biggest contract in College Football.

The contract also has one of the most interesting buyout clauses. Should Swinney choose to leave Clemson for Alabama before the contract runs out, there would be a 50 percent increase in the buyout. That means that the Crimson Tide will have to pay double to get Swinney in a buyout than any other program in the nation would should Dabo choose to leave.

Essentially, this is Clemson trying to offer Dabo Swinney a lifetime contract.

The administration is well aware that he could potentially want to leave for Alabama. That’s why they chose to put the buyout clause in the contract. The truth, though, is that if Swinney did choose to leave for Bama later, the buyout clause certainly wouldn’t scare the Crimson Tide away.

But, I think the trustees are hoping that this contract- making Swinney the highest-paid coach in the nation with a 10-year deal- will cement Swinney’s legacy with the Clemson football program and keep him in Tiger Town for the duration of his career.

Swinney has become a Clemson football legend already because of how he has built the program. If he sticks around for another 10 years, there’s a chance the Tigers could ascend up the ladder and reach historical marks over this next decade.

What do you think of Dabo’s new contract? Do you think he’ll want to leave for Alabama at some point during the deal? Comment below with your thoughts.
