It was announced last week that Clemson football running back Tavien Feaster would be transferring out of the program. What does it mean going forward?
Clemson football running back Tavien Feaster officially put his name in the transfer portal Wednesday evening of last week.
Since then, Feaster has reportedly been compiling a list of schools and focusing on finishing his degree. The senior is on track to graduate in August of this season. Because of that, he can transfer and play a final year of football anywhere in the country (as long as the school he chooses has a Master’s program that Clemson University doesn’t currently offer) without sitting out due to the grad-transfer rule.
With Feaster’s expected departure, the Clemson football running back pecking order became much more defined.
The Tigers will have a definite starter in Travis Etienne, which was expected, and a defined backup in sophomore Lyn-J Dixon, who will be an explosive option behind Etienne.
After those two, you’re going to see a plethora of guys vying for that third-string position. After the spring, Darrien Rencher will be the man.
Rencher will have competition this fall, though, when true-freshmen Chez Mellusi and Michel Dukes arrive on campus.
The Tigers will have more of a two-headed attack coming out of the backfield, but we’re still going to see a couple of those guys- between Rencher, Mellusi and Dukes- see significant playing time in 2019.
The main area that Clemson football will miss Tavien Feaster will probably be in the receiving game out of the backfield and the fact that he was the most-experienced back of the group. Feaster had developed into a pretty decent pass-protector, which will be an area that Dixon has to improve upon this season.
We wish Tavien Feaster the best going forward with whatever he decides.
