The Clemson baseball team is on a bit of a skid as they head into yet another ACC conference series. The Tigers will need to rebound this weekend.
The game of baseball can change so quickly.
Just a couple of weeks ago after Clemson baseball came away with a series victory over Louisville, Tiger fans were thinking about hosting a regional and possibly working into being a national seed.
After being swept the following weekend by Florida State and then losing a 20 inning thriller to Georgia in Athens by one run, the Tigers are now back vying for a top-25 spot.
Though Clemson beat Louisville a couple of weeks ago in a series, the Tigers currently sit in third place in the ACC Atlantic with a 25-12 overall record and an 11-7 conference record. Clemson is one game behind NC State (30-8, 12-6 in the ACC) and two games back of Louisville (29-8, 13-5 in the ACC) in the ACC Atlantic Division.
In the ACC as a whole, Clemson is tied with Georgia Tech for fourth place.
Hosting a regional is certainly not out of the question as there is still plenty of baseball left to be played. For the Tigers, though, they’ve got to get some wins under their belts.
After losing four-straight games, Clemson will host Duke at Doug Kingsmore Stadium this weekend. The Blue Devils are just 8-10 in the ACC and 21-16 overall.
The Tigers had really good pitching in the mid-week game against UGA, but the pitching was certainly not on par during last weekend’s series against Florida State.
Clemson baseball will need to get better pitching this weekend and avoid striking out so many times offensively. You’ve got to find a way to get those runners in scoring position home and it all starts with not swinging for the fences every at-bat and instead looking for holes in the defense and getting on base to create pressure on opposing pitchers.
