Clemson Football: Latest NFL Mock Draft has Wilkins as first Tiger off the board
The latest NFL.com Mock Draft has several former Clemson football players being taken, but a change in the first Tiger off the board.
NFL.com released its latest 2019 Mock Draft and there were a few changes, depending on which analyst you look at.
The mock draft was done in round-table form with four analysts- Charley Casserly, Charles Davis, Chad Reuter and Peter Schrager- making their picks for the entire first round.
Among the four mock drafts, Clemson football’s Christian Wilkins, Clelin Ferrell and Dexter Lawrence were all projected to go in the first round.
Here’s a look at where each of the analysts had the three Tigers going, with Wilkins seeing a little boost in the first round compared to what we were seeing in the early NFL Mock Drafts.
Clelin Ferrell
- Casserly: No. 15 to the Washington Redskins
- Davis: No. 13 to the Miami Dolphins
- Reuter: No. 24 to the Oakland Raiders
- Schrager: No. 17 to the New York Giants
Christian Wilkins
- Casserly: No. 17 to the New York Giants
- Davis: No. 19 to the Tennessee Titans
- Reuter: No. 14 to the Atlanta Falcons
- Schrager: No. 13 to the Miami Dolphins
Dexter Lawrence
- Casserly: No. 27 to the Oakland Raiders
- Davis: No. 26 to the Indianapolis Colts
- Reuter: No. 26 to the Indianapolis Colts
- Schrager: No. 26 to the Indianapolis Colts
Thoughts:
For the longest time, it was expected that Clelin Ferrell would be the first Tiger taken off the board when the 2019 NFL Draft came along, and that still may very well be the case.
But, as of late, we are starting to see Christian Wilkins trending up the boards. He was in the late-teens to mid-20s a few months ago, but is now in the mid-to-late teens.
I wouldn’t be shocked at all to see Wilkins be the first former Clemson football player taken. His character and leadership speak for themselves and I think NFL teams are looking for those valuable assets when investing in a first-round pick.
The same compliments could be said about both Ferrell and Lawrence, as well.
