Clemson football defensive end Justin Mascoll hasn’t quite gotten the hype of some of the other players, but had a really good spring.
The Clemson football team finished up its spring camp with the annual Orange & White spring game Saturday afternoon in Death Valley.
In front of 60,000 Tiger fans, Clemson football played a mix-and-match scrimmage that saw several players have big days.
Defensively, many Tiger fans noted the athleticism and versatility of Derion Kendrick. Others talked about the dominance of defensive back Sheridan Jones and the ability of AJ Terrell.
Many others noted the solid play from the linebackers or the job that freshman Tyler Davis did up the middle. When talking about pass-rush, thoughts automatically go to Xavier Thomas, KJ Henry and Justin Foster, who all had nice days.
But, one guy that had a really nice day that’s flying under the radar following the spring is redshirt freshman Justin Mascoll.
Mascoll went up against Jackson Carman for a good part of the day and actually beat him on several occasions. Mascoll was in the backfield causing pressure off the edge.
When looking back at the film, I really liked his technique. He was quick off the ball and did a good job electing rather to rush from the outside or make a move to cut inside. Mascoll was in on a few tackles on ball-carriers, as well.
Though he won’t get the notoriety of many of the top stars for Clemson football, I have a feeling that Justin Mascoll is going to be a very good player for the Tigers.
He’s going to earn playing time this year and I fully expect him to factor into the two-deep at that defensive end position.
Keep your eye on big No. 7, he may actually look similar to another No. 7 that just graduated from Clemson a few months ago.
