Clemson football cornerback Sheridan Jones had an impressive spring as a midyear enrollee. That will bode well for him heading into fall camp.

If you’re a midyear enrollee, all you’re trying to do in the spring is create enough momentum to turn the coach’s head a time or two.

When you’ve finally gotten their attention, you want to take the next step of showing how consistently good you are, even if you should still be in high school instead of going through spring camp.

When it comes to the Clemson football program, it’s even harder for a midyear enrollee to come in and shine in spring practice. Why? Because there are 70-plus other guys who were just as highly recruited as you and they are all in their second, third or fourth year of spring ball.

With that said, there always seems to be a couple of midyear enrollees who stand out among the crowd and make an impact after just stepping on campus three months ago. One of those guys for Clemson football in 2019 is Sheridan Jones.

Tiger fans got see Jones’ ability Saturday afternoon in the spring game. Jones was one of the best single pass-defenders of the entire scrimmage and did a good job in coverage, even when he was put in some tough situations.

In addition to being solid in pass-coverage, Jones also was able to read the offense and jump in on a couple of screen attempts, as well as help finish off runs on the corners.

These are all things you look for in a cornerback and Jones did it all well. He capped off the day by intercepting Ben Batson’s pass and running into the end zone, sealing the win for the White Team.

It wasn’t just the spring game, though, that Jones has been impressive in. His name has consistently come up after spring practices and it’s clear that he has been a consistent and stellar option at cornerback for the Tigers this entire the spring.

Though I think he’ll sit behind AJ Terrell, potentially Derion Kendrick and Andrew Booth, I do think Jones has the talent to surpass Kyler McMichael, LeAnthony Williams and Mario Goodrich on the depth chart if he continues to play the way he has in the spring.

It’s going to be interesting to watch the competition at those two cornerback spots in the fall, no doubt.
