The Opening is one of the biggest recruiting events of the spring. Several Clemson football commits and targets performed well this past weekend.

The Opening Atlanta Regional was held this weekend at Stockbridge High School and it was clear that Clemson football was heavily represented in the participants.

The Opening Regional is something that is put on several different places across the nation, inviting select high school prospects to participate in skills and drills, as well as test and get education. After performing through drills, the top prospects from each regional are invited to compete in The Opening Finals, a four-day event that features a ton of competitions.

Here are some of the news and notes coming out of the prestigious event this weekend.

  • Paul Tchio named a final five OL.

Clemson football OL commit Paul Tchio was named as one of the top five offensive linemen at the event. As a result, he will move on to The Opening Finals to compete for a chance to be named one of the top offensive linemen in the country.

Tchio, who is currently a 4-star and the No. 5 OG in the country according to 247 sports’ composite rankings, will have a chance to move up to a 5-star before it’s all said and done, in my opinion.

He has lost some weight and is playing much quicker with better footwork. That bodes well for the Tigers as the talented prospect enters his senior season.

  • 5-star DE target highlights day

5-star DE Myles Murphy was one of the top performers of the entire day, no doubt. Murphy is still considering several schools, but it is believed that Georgia, Auburn and Clemson are his favorites- with a slight advantage to the SEC Tigers and the Bulldogs.

Murphy will be making a visit to Clemson this week and said that he will be making his decision in August, presumably before his senior season of high school begins.

  • Clemson football commits are recruiting

4-star LB Kevin Swint, as well as Tchio and many others, are recruiting to help build the 2020 class every chance they get.

Swint had a solid day at The Opening and was one of the most impressive linebackers in coverage, according to several reports.

The future Tigers are particularly interested in seeing a commitment from 5-star QB DJ Uiagalelei.

  • 4-star WR Targets look impressive

4-star WR targets KeAndre Lambert and EJ Williams were both impressive. Lambert was wearing Clemson gloves, as well as orange and white cleats.

Williams tested in the 99th percentile in the country.

Both of these guys are believed to be favoring the Tigers and I wouldn’t be surprised to see either join the 2020 class soon.

Next. Trevor Lawrence taking charge in 2019. dark

Right now, the Tigers are looking to take two wide receivers, but are waiting on 5-star Julian Fleming. They could potentially still take three, though, if all three guys were sold on coming to play for the program.
