Clemson football quarterback Trevor Lawrence will be relied upon to be more than just a good player in 2019, he’ll be counted on to be a leader.

Clemson football quarterback Trevor Lawrence is one of the favorites to win the Heisman Trophy and is a huge reason why the Tigers are favored to get back to the CFB Playoff in 2019.

There’s no doubting Lawrence’s talent, skill and ability.

He, in my opinion, is the best quarterback in the nation. His arm talent is unlike anything we’ve seen in quite some time. Lawrence just doesn’t make that many mistakes. He continues to improve and get better. All these things culminate in reasons why he is expected to be the No. 1 overall player drafted in the NFL Draft two years from now.

With that in mind, Trevor Lawrence will be relied upon to be much more than a good player in 2019 as a sophomore, he’s going to have to be a leader. So far, he is passing that test.

Lawrence will be relied upon to take charge of that Clemson football offense. He knows the playbook now and the coaches are going to let him lead, even more than he did as a freshman.

I fully expect Lawrence to have plenty of opportunities to check out of a play and to discuss with the coaching staff what he is seeing during a game, similar to what we saw with both Deshaun Watson and Tajh Boyd as their Clemson football careers progressed.

It all starts, though, with earning the respect of your teammates.

Lawrence needs to be a leader on that offense. He’s got to step up and be more vocal. He needs to be a guy that the coaches can rely upon to put in the work and lead by both example and voice.

So far, it seems that he is doing just that.
