2. More than just football

Look, you can say that this doesn’t have anything to do with coaching all you want, but I strongly disagree.

A great coach is a mentor. He or she is someone you can look up to and is someone that is there for their athletes on and off the field of play. Swinney is just that.

He focuses on academics and building great men, not just great athletes.

If a player decides to leave early for the NFL, Swinney promises him a scholarship to come back and complete his academics. He stays on guys- even those that are elite NFL players- about coming back to school and completing their degree.

The Tigers take time for career development outside of football and Swinney makes sure his athletes are taught life skills, like cooking and time management for life once they’re out of college.
