Clemson Football 2019: Comparing 5 freshmen to former Tigers

5. Taisun Phommachanh, 4-star QB

Comparison: Kelly Bryant

As part of the rules of the list, we are only comparing freshmen to former Clemson football players and Kelly Bryant qualifies as that.

The main comparison is Phommachanh’s explosive running ability. Brandon Streeter compared him to Deshaun Watson, but I don’t think he’s quite as polished as what Watson was coming out of high school.

Phommachanh certainly has the ability to become Watson, but he’s got to develop a little more in the passing game, particularly with the deep ball. As far as running ability, though, he’s off the charts.

If he can work on his passing game, I think there’s a chance he develops into an elite quarterback after a couple of years in the system.
