Clemson Football: Could the Tigers sign a pair of 5-star DEs in 2020?
Clemson football is in good position for two of the top DEs in the nation for the 2020 class. Could the Tigers potentially draw commitments from both guys?
The 2020 Clemson football recruiting class could potentially be the best in school history.
The Tigers already have seven commitments in the 2020 class, six of which are 4-star prospects. That class is good enough to be ranked No. 5 in the nation currently, according to 247 Sports’ Composite Rankings, but there’s a chance that number gets even better.
Dabo Swinney and his staff aren’t chasing after star-ratings.
But, they’ve gotten a ton of stars over the past few years as a by-product of running an elite program and evaluating talent correctly.
In 2020, those stars may be bigger and more noticeable than ever before in Clemson football history.
Part of that may be the fact that Clemson is in great shape to earn commitments from two of the top three defensive ends in the country.
Trending Upwards…
According to the latest crystal ball predictions from 247 Sports, Clemson is the leader to gain a commitment from 5-star DE Jordan Burch and the Tigers are trending towards being the favorite to land a commitment from 5-star DE Bryan Bresee.
Bresee, according to 247 sports, isn’t just the top defensive end, but the top player in the 2020 class as well.
Burch is rated as the No. 1 player in the state of South Carolina and the No. 3 overall defensive end in the nation.
There’s really only one other duo of defensive ends that have ever signed with Clemson football that would be comparable. That’s Xavier Thomas (No.1 DE, No. 3 overall player) and KJ Henry (No. 3 DE, No. 14 overall player) in 2018.
There’s a shot that Burch moves up closer to the top-10 in the nation before it’s all said and done and I’d really like to see this duo choose to come to Clemson.
It’s a long recruitment process and neither have made a decision as of yet, but things are about as good as you could ask for from a Clemson football perspective this early on. The key will be getting both guys- especially Bresee- back on campus soon to be a part of the atmosphere and continue to build that relationship.
