Could Clemson football freshman wide receiver Brannon Spector emerge as the next Hunter Renfrow? The two certainly have some similarities.
Let’s go ahead and get this out of the way. You’ll never replace Hunter Renfrow.
What Hunter Renfrow did for Clemson football was absolutely amazing. Renfrow became a key piece in two National Championship runs and was the safety blanket for three different quarterbacks during his career- Deshaun Watson, Kelly Bryant and Trevor Lawrence.
His consistency was unmatched and the way he ran his routes was underrated. That’s why Renfrow is absolutely shocking the world right now going through workouts.
People see that he is undersized, but then are blown away by the true talent he possesses with quick footwork and elite hands.
With all that being said, there is a freshman for Clemson football that has a lot of similarities to Hunter Renfrow. As a matter of fact, he was given the No. 13.
That guy is 3-star wide receiver Brannon Spector.
What is he capable of being?
Spector is going to play the slot just like Renfrow did. He’s a couple of inches taller than Renfrow and perhaps a little more refined as far as his body is concerned.
He has great footwork and even better hands. That’s why, when I watch his film, I believe that you could see Spector develop into the type of player that Renfrow was. A safety blanket-type guy that can catch anything you put in his vicinity.
Spector is vastly underrated. We all get caught up in the talented stars that make explosive plays, but then forget about the importance of having a guy that is just consistent. That’s what Spector brings to the table.
So, will anyone ever be Hunter Renfrow? No.
But, Spector could prove to provide the same type of consistency with, perhaps, a bit more athletic upside. It will be fun to watch him play and develop.
