1. Trevor Lawrence

According to 247 sports’ rankings, current Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence is the highest-ever signee for the Tigers.

Lawrence, a member of the 2018 class, was ranked the No. 1 overall player in the nation by 247 sports.

He absolutely has lived up to his star rating so far.

Lawrence won the starting position at quarterback as a freshman and led the Tigers to a perfect 15-0 record and a National Championship.

He finished breaking basically ever single Clemson football freshman passing record and is on pace to be one of the best, if not the best, to ever put on a Tiger uniform.

Bottom Line:

You can see that the recruiting services missed on a lot of guys. Deshaun Watson, perhaps Clemson’s best player of all-time, was a 4-star. Christian Wilkins isn’t in the top-10 and neither are guys like Mike Williams, Justyn Ross, Tee Higgins and DeAndre Hopkins, who certainly deserved consideration.

That’s why recruiting rankings should always be taken with a grain of salt. Because, as you can see from the list, some of the guys work out and become all-time greats. Others really never measure up to their rankings. And some guys transcend their star ratings.
